UMass Memorial Health Buys Former Nursing Center Property for $23.5M: Report

UMass Memorial Health is expanding its footprint with the $23.5 million purchase of a Worcester property that could bolster capacity by up to six dozen beds amid a shortage hitting the region, Mass Live reports.

The property previously housed the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center adjacent to the UMass Memorial Medical Center’s campus. The acquisition could add up to 72 beds, subject to state Department of Public Health approval, UMass said.

Officials had already begun 5-to-10-year plans for a 200-bed tower on campus ahead of the pandemic, but the city and Central Massachusetts, like much of the country, are in the middle of a capacity crunch as COVID-19 cases continue to climb. Read more.
