Delta Medix Agrees to Sell Practice to Lehigh Valley Physicians Group, but Scranton, PA Hospitals Object: Report

Delta Medix agreed to sell its medical practice to Lehigh Valley Physicians Group, but the deal could be scuttled by two Commonwealth Health System hospitals, which also want to purchase the practice, The Standard-Speaker reports.

The proposed sales agreement was reached in July, but had not yet been publicly announced. The deal recently came to light after attorneys for Scranton Quincy Hospital Co., doing business as Regional Hospital of Scranton and Moses Taylor Hospital, filed a motion seeking to halt the sale.

Lisa Lori, attorney for Delta Medix, said the practice’s owners chose Lehigh Valley because it offers certain services, particularly in cancer care, that will help make the practice the premiere health care and cancer treatment center in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The deal, which officials hope to conclude by Dec. 31, would enhance cancer care in the region because Lehigh Valley has an exclusive alliance with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Read more.
