An Illinois board approved an application from Northwestern Medicine to eliminate labor and delivery services at their McHenry hospital starting next month, reports the Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board voted 7-1 to allow the Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry to close their obstetrics and gynecology department.
Beginning in January, expectant mothers will have to drive to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley for labor and delivery.
The board previously held a public hearing on the issue in October. In September, Northwestern Medicine said in a statement that the consolidation of services from McHenry to Huntley was part of the hospital’s plan “to provide better care to patients of all ages.” Read more.
