Medicare Payment Advisory Commission Recommends Increasing Payment Rate to Hospitals in 2023

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission voted to approve a recommendation to boost the hospital payment rate for fiscal 2023, the American Hospital Association reports. The commission recommended that Congress provide a current law update for the hospital inpatient and outpatient prospective payment systems in 2023, currently estimated at 2.5% for inpatient and 2% for outpatient.

On the downside, the panel voted to recommend a 5% rate decrease for skilled nursing, inpatient rehabilitation facilities and home health agencies in 2023. Commissioners also voted to recommend no increase to physician payment during the same period. Read more.
