The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the growth of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and growth is likely to continue for the foreseeable future, Health Leaders reports, citing an ASC expert.
The first ASC in the United States opened in 1970 and explosive growth happened through the late 1980s and into the 1990s, according to the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA). ASC growth as been steady over the past two decades, with more than 5,800 ASCs performing an estimated 30 million procedures in 2020. Read more.
