Family planning has become fertile ground, pun intended, for healthcare startups, and this fast-growing sector is driven by tailwinds such as demographic shifts in the workforce and rising rates of infertility, reports Fierce Healthcare.
Fertility benefits, which could include egg freezing, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and surrogacy, have become a top workplace perk as companies try to attract talent and remain competitive in a tight labor market.
As of 2020, 42% of large U.S. employers—those with over 20,000 staff members—offered coverage for IVF treatment, while almost one-fifth (19%) offered egg freezing. Among smaller companies with over 500 employees, about a quarter (27%) offer coverage for IVF treatment.
