Detroit Medical Center’s Detroit Receiving Hospital is at risk of losing its ability to participate in Medicare because of problems state regulators uncovered during a recent inspection, continuing a years-long history of safety problems identified within the regional health care system, The Detroit News reports.
Losing eligibility for Medicare likely would also cause a loss of participation in Medicaid, the government health program for mostly low-income residents, and prove financially devastating, said Allan Baumgarten, a Minneapolis-based health care analyst who follows Michigan’s health care industry.
