McKinney Hospital, Surgical Centers in Texas Targeted by Group of Russian Hackers

Hospitals in McKinney, Texas, are dealing with a potential cyber security attack for an unknown number of North Texans, who apparently have had a lot of their personal information stolen by hackers, CBS 11 reports.

McKinney Methodist Hospital and two nearby surgical centers were targets of the attack last month by a group of Russian hackers.

The hackers copied files containing patient names, addresses and Social Security numbers, birth dates, medical histories, diagnosis and treatment information, medical record numbers and health insurance information.

The hospital issued a statement:

“Methodist Health System can confirm that Methodist McKinney Hospital (MMH) is currently investigating a cybersecurity issue. Methodist McKinney is still assessing the full nature and scope of this event. While the hospital carries the Methodist name, Methodist McKinney is a jointly-owned hospital with physicians that is managed by a third-party hospital and ASC management company that oversees all day-to-day management functions at the McKinney facility.” Read more.
