Lancaster General Hospital to Open Expanded ED

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health will unveil part of its ongoing $183 million investment with the opening this week of its expanded emergency department.

The first change patients might notice is added security, WGAL reports.

“Having metal detection is a way to really make sure that all of our customers – internal and external – have the highest level of safety,” emergency department director Amy Sechrist said.

New track boards will post patient status while protecting patient identity.

“This helps our clinical care team be able to locate patients within each nursing station,” Sechrist said.

The 40,000-square-foot expansion adds 36 emergency beds and is located where the old hospital cafeteria and kitchen used to be. Read more.
