Bellin, Gundersen to Merge Dec. 1, Form $2.4B Health Care Provider Serving Four States

Gundersen Health System and Bellin Health have agreed to merge following five months of discussion and regulatory reviews.

The two organizations will combine effective Dec. 1 in a move Bellin CEO Chris Woleske and Gundersen CEO Dr. Scott Rathgaber called a merger of equals who share the same vision and commitment to providing health care in the regions they serve, reports The Green Bay Press Gazette.

“We want to be deliberate and intentional. This is a merger of opportunity, not necessity,” Rathgaber said. “We’re both doing quite well now, but we know we can do better together.”

Both leaders emphasized the combination will not result in any clinics closing or consolidation of services and that patients will still see the same care providers in the same locations. They also said the combination will not affect any existing partnerships and service agreements Bellin or Gundersen has with any health organizations or service providers. Read more.
