Leflore Hospital in MS Taking Donations to Try to Stay Afloat

Struggling Greenwood (Miss.) Leflore Hospital, which continues to stay open after its planned takeover by the University of Mississippi Medical Center fell through late last year, is accepting donations from concerned local citizens, per Becker’s.

The move, rather than being a promoted initiative by the hospital, has been prompted by local people turning up at the hospital offering to help financially as the news around the potential closure of the hospital grew.

Many other people in the local community are trying to offer their help, too, Gary Marchand, the hospital’s interim CEO, said in a statement.

“Other individuals and business and civic leaders in the community have really stepped up in looking for opportunities to help,” he said. “Our challenge boils down to reimbursement numbers and our ability to get paid for our services.”
