Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking North Carolina’s approval to build a $246 million, 36-bed community hospital in Greensboro.

The moves comes on the heels of Atrium purchasing 36 acres on Horse Pen Creek Road in Greensboro last month for $12.5 million where it plans to build a $30 million surgery center that the state approved in November, the Triad Business Journal reports.

In its certficate of need request to the  N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation filed on Monday, Atrium Health said the two facilities would both be located on the Horse Pen Creek property if the plans for the community hospital are approved.

If approved, Wake Forest Baptist would move 36 beds and two operating rooms from its High Point medical center to its new Greensboro Medical Center. The proposed hospital also would also include an emergency department and other services. Read more.
