Officials with a trade union representing hundreds of healthcare workers who would be affected by the proposed Sanford Health-Fairview merger are speaking out against the merger, and its members are urging for South Dakota lawmakers and the attorney general to get involved, the Argus Leader reports.
Minnesota’s Attorney General opened an investigation into the proposed merger after it was announced in November. In January, he held four public listening sessions across the state to hear community concerns, and Minnesota’s legislature also held a hearing at the end of the month. International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) healthcare director Shane Brinton said they are now calling on South Dakota officials to intervene, although the organization hasn’t yet put in a formal ask.
