Baystate’s 400-square-foot operating rooms of the past will be replaced with 600-square-foot rooms outfitted with the latest technology, up to and including a phone app alerting friends and loved ones — waiting in the hospital or in Springfield or anywhere with the internet — to the patient’s progress from pre-op to recovery, reports MassLive. It’s a $170 million project that also includes procedure rooms for work on the heart and brain as well as a new entrance and streamlined ways of moving very sick through the medical center when seconds count.
The new operating rooms are part of the Springfield, MA hospital’s $296 million “hospital of the future” modernization and expansion project first announced in 2012. Read more.
