UAMS Scores $12M in State Funding to Support New Hospital

The Arkansas General Assembly committed $12 million to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to support the new South Arkansas Regional Hospital (SARH) in El Dorado.

SARH is a new, nonprofit corporation created by a consortium of stakeholders with deep commitments to El Dorado, including the SHARE Foundation, Murphy USA Charitable Foundation, Murphy Foundation and AR Health Ventures, a nonprofit entity affiliated with UAMS, Arkansas Money & Politics reports.

The hospital signed an agreement on April 3 to acquire the Medical Center of South Arkansas (MCSA) and its related businesses, including physician clinic operations and outpatient services. $12 million dollars from the state’s restricted reserves, or surplus, were provided by the General Assembly to SAHR through UAMS. These funds will cover the hospital’s operational expenses from the acquisition and extend specialty care in the area. Read more.
