The “worst financial year since the start of the pandemic” brought limited, and sometimes negative, revenue growth across the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems. Of note, the list is ordered by total operating revenues as reported by each system, which broadly sets aside the impact of nonoperating items such as investment returns.
Kaiser Permanente leads the nation’s nonprofit systems in revenue ($99.4 billion) as well as scale, with 624 medical offices, 39 hospitals and 43 retail and employee clinics as of March 31. Importantly, its business also comprises one of the country’s largest health plans with 12.6 million members across several states as of Dec. 31. Read more.
