Medicare Seeks $130M Payment Hike for Dialysis Centers

Medicare payments to hospital-based dialysis centers would increase 2.6% in 2024, while freestanding centers would see a 1.6% payment bump under a proposed rule the Biden administration released Monday, Bloomberg reports.

Total Medicare payments for dialysis facilities will increase roughly $130 million as a result of the proposal. Beneficiary co-insurance payments would increase 1.6% under the proposal, or about $30 million, according to a CMS fact sheet.

The payment update would support facilities that treat patients with kidney failure, known as end-stage renal disease, or ESRD. These patients use dialysis machines that replace their failed organ’s filtering function. Read more.
