The new $900 million Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center will open its doors Friday in Duluth, MN.
The 344-bed facility covers 942,000 square feet, roughly the same size as the hospital it is replacing. The 18-floor medical facility towers 340 feet and is fitted with fritted glass in more than 30 patterns designed to prevent bird strikes, reduce glare and improve energy efficiency, The Duluth News Tribune reports.
The old hospital will likely be demolished within the coming year, and Essentia is reportedly still exploring the site’s future use. Read more.
