A Modesto, CA-based company has announced its intention to lease and then buy Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.
American Advanced Management wrote a letter of intent to operate the hospital to the San Benito Health Care District.
The hospital, along with many rural hospitals across the country, has been looking at bankruptcy and possibly closing. Extensive work has been done over the past year to reduce costs and keep the hospital open, KSBW reports.
The letter of intent is the first step in changing ownership of HHMH. The health care district and the voters will be the final deciders in the transfer of ownership.
San Benito Health Care District board members voted unanimously in May to file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy for Hazel Hawkins Memorial — a decision many healthcare workers are strongly against.
