Medical City’s acquisition of Wise Health System is nearing the dotted line — however, hospital officials say they don’t expect the locally owned and operated hospital to be absorbed by HCA’s extensive hospital network until at least October. A deal has been in the works since the start of the year, following the hospital board’s Jan. 3 announcement that it was in exclusive discussions to join Medical City Healthcare, a division of HCA Healthcare.
Created by the Decatur Hospital Authority, the Decatur Community Hospital, now known as Wise Health System, opened its doors in 1974 with 50 patient beds and two operating rooms. The hospital now serves residents in five North Texas counties and employs more than 1,800 with a medical staff of 450+ providers.
