Financially Struggling Beverly Hospital in CA Transitions to New Owner

After weeks of uncertainty, financially beleaguered Beverly Hospital in Montebello, CA, is expected to merge this week with new owner Adventist Health. A statement from Adventist confirmed this weekend that the transition was under way, but some civic leaders expressed concerns about the medical hub’s future.

Beverly – a nonprofit, 202-bed general acute-care facility that provided critical and low-lost medical services to Montebello and its surrounding communities — has been a vital acute care hospital for generations, the Whittier Daily News reports.

The hospital — which will soon merge operations with Adventist Health White Memorial Hospital in Boyle Heights —  filed for bankruptcy in April, an action that disrupted services such as pediatric care, maternity services and outpatient radiology.

The hospital’s emergency department was shut down last month to 911 traffic, likely forcing an already modest fire department presence to transport patients to 911 receiving hospitals outside the city.

Hospital officials said the “diversions” from the ER are only temporary during the transition in ownership. Read more.
