New ED Coming to Sunrise, FL

In their first joint venture, Memorial Healthcare System and Broward Health hospital systems broke ground Thursday on a free-standing adult and children’s emergency department in Sunrise.

Broward Health will oversee the adult emergency department, and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital will manage the children’s unit. The building will include 15 exam rooms, 98 parking spaces and have high-tech imaging capabilities.

Broward Health had owned the land at 9001 W. Oakland Park Blvd. and more recently acquired surrounding parcels. The two taxpayer-funded hospital districts have been working closely with the city of Sunrise after identifying a need for emergency care. Planning for the project has been going on for more than a year. Officials from both hospital systems and from the city of Sunrise attended the groundbreaking, the Sun Sentinel reports.

The building is expected to open to patients in late 2024. Read more.
