Blue Cross and Blue Shield of N.C. said that it is buying all 55 locations of FastMed urgent care in North Carolina.
The healthcare groups projected the transaction to be completed in early 2024. Blue Cross NC has been a minority investor in FastMed since 2012, reports the Winston Salem-Journal.
“This pending acquisition builds on Blue Cross NC’s existing investments and our longstanding commitment to making health care more affordable, accessible and easier to navigate,” the insurer said. “With this next step, these locations can continue to be a critical resource in North Carolina communities, including those facing provider shortages.” The groups said FastMed has been affected by staffing shortages that were magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic.
