Financial Profit in Medicine: A Position Paper From the American College of Physicians

Corporate, for-profit interest in healthcare should be evaluated to ensure that there are adequate protections in place for patients, the American College of Physicians wrote in a policy paper published Sept. 7.

The paper, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, cautions that the existing healthcare system resembles a “medical-industrial complex.”

“What many imagine to be a lean, market-based system is actually bloated, complex, and fragmented, increasingly directed toward generating profit,” the physician group wrote. Read more.
