HCA Calls Asheville, NC Anti-Trust Lawsuit an ‘End-Run’ Around Mission Hospital Sale

HCA Healthcare says an anti-trust lawsuit filed against it by six local residents is more about the sale of Mission than an unfair monopoly on Western North Carolina’s healthcare market, Citizen Times reports. 

In a motion to dismiss, HCA says those bringing the suit failed to show that the company had “unlawfully acquired or maintained monopoly power.”

Instead, a 40-page memo attached to the motion says the heart of the issue is a dissatisfaction with the HCA purchase of the nonprofit hospital system, and those bringing the complaint are trying to use the anti-trust lawsuit as an “end-run” around the sale. Read more.
