Patients’ Hospital Closes After 30 Years in Redding, CA

After 30 years, Patients’ Hospital in Redding is closing, KRCR reports.

It came as a surprise, and somewhat of a shock, to the staff there—many of whom have been there for many years.

The private hospital will close its doors today, only a week since the owner, Dr. James Tate, notified the staff.

An active neurosurgeon for close to 50 years, he performed his last surgery less than three weeks ago and says it’s time to put down his scalpel.

“I do, primarily, inpatients. Not enough inpatient volume to keep the hospital open 24/7 the way the state license requires. So, we’ll close it,” Dr. Tate said. “But, of course, it’s an opportunity. So, lots of people are coming up out of the woodwork saying this is the greatest hospital ever, it’s got a really good reputation, it has awards, it’s a five-star hospital—the only one in the areaSo, there’s lots of interest in it.”

Dr. Tate says if he has his way, the staff will stay together and retain their jobs for new operators of the 10-room facility. Read more.
