Ventura County supervisors started an oversight body to ensure the county medical system follows rules for billing federal health care programs in the wake of a dispute costing $29 million, the Ventura County Star reports.
The action follows the disclosure in August that the county will pay the money to settle allegations of false claims for certain services billed to the Medi-Cal program for low-income patients.
The claims were for services such as case management, rather than standard doctor visits, county Health Care Agency Director Barry Zimmerman said.
The formation of the Ventura County Health Care System Oversight Committee is part of an agreement the county entered with the HHS Office of Inspector General. Read more.
