Denver May Help Inner City Health Center Expand with Forgivable Loan

A Denver health center that’s a lifeline for underserved populations may get more than $1 million in federal funding passed down by the City and County of Denver.

The Business, Arts, Workforce and Aviation Services Committee of the Denver City Council will consider Wednesday giving Inner City Health Center $790,000 for construction costs. The clinic is expanding its services, NewsBreak reports.

The funding is in the form of a forgivable loan. If the location remains a clinic for underserved populations for at least seven years and meets certain other criteria the loan will be dismissed. In the meantime, the city will register a deed of trust against the property to protect its investment.

The money will be used for hard construction costs such as foundation work, reinforcement of steel and structural concrete, framing and building walls, plumbing and electrical work. Read more.
