The Biden administration announced it is awarding $15 million in new grants early next year to states building out community behavioral health clinics, on top of almost $300 million awarded in September.

The grants will help 208 rural health care organizations expand critical services for nearly five million people.

This is one of 10 such awards funded by HHS.

The DeKalb County Commission’s planning, economic development and community services committee passed the proposal on Tuesday. 

The money comes through the American Rescue Plan Act and HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said the administration of President Joe Biden “is committed to building a robust health workforce to make communities healthy.”

The funding is intended to improve service delivery, promote the adoption of healthy behaviors and reduce existing health disparities.

Williamson Memorial closed as the hospital was “operating as a debtor-in-possession in bankruptcy.”

The award marked the largest ever single investment in behavioral health services by the state's lawmakers.

The final dollars are in flux, but it’s expected to include more than $100 million from money that Georgia was allocated through the American Rescue Plan Act.

The Iowa Clinic is looking to add a third Waukee location — and the city is offering nearly $1.7 million to make it happen.
